Nice to see your 60's entries. Befo...Hey Jiggy

Nice to see your 60's entries. Before I comment on them, my first comment is did you get that photo from one of our road trips????

Now, onto the music.

Very glad to see Space Oddity on your list, that would be in my list for sure. God Only Knows, Little Green Bag, Son of a Preacher Man, the Boxer and Little Wing are all great songs, not sure all of them would necessarily make my list, but they are great tracks nonetheless.

Picking a Beatles song is damn hard, and While my guitar is a good song, and not a surprise to me that you have chose it as I have heard you speak highly of that track before, but its not not even my favourite George song let alone favourite Beatles song (I prefer Something), although I gotta say the stripped back version of While my Guitar on the Anthology and Love releases is absolutely awesome!

Picking a Kinks song would also be a tough one, but I think I would have Sunny Afternoon, Lola, Victoria (and maybe some others) above Dead End Street, but again, your comparison to picking your favourite child applies here.

Ballad of a Thin Man is a good song, although I haven't listened to it a lot because I don't actually have it - it surprisingly didn't make the Dylan compilation that I have, and my Dylan discography only extends as far as Blonde on Blond, Bringing it All Back Home and Blood on the Tracks.

In terms of James Brown, I am more of a I Got You (I feel good) fan.

I have never really got into Sly and Family Stone, although I can't quite recall the song Stand (but reckon I would know it), and the more I think about it, the more the REM song of the same name goes through my head!!

Folsom Prison - great track, and would be in my list for sure, and the live version is great, however, I would raise a question mark over its inclusion in the 60's and not the 50's, given the original Cash recording was from the 50's.

I Want You Back - I am a bit torn on this. I am still in awe of that footage from the Ed Sullivan Show (I think), where this little kid delivers such an amazing vocal and dance performance, and it is a good song, but I dunno, for some reason which I can't explain, there is something about this song that I don't like....i will have to think about this more and actually have something better than a Dennis De Nuto defence to back up my argument.

and finally, I must admit that I don't know the tracks Whispering Pines and Who Knows Where the Time Goes, so you will have to introduce me to these tracks, given you have so highly recommended them.

Anyway, thats enough of my rants - keep up the good work with the posts, look forward to commenting on your 70's entry.Deanohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02402296752349739844noreply@blogger.com
