In the UK, Radio 1 is noticeably louder than Radio 3, in order to make people stop twiddling the dial when they're searching for a signal.Sick Mouthyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10154053197279166768noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8281735.post-70051402328431203862008-12-22T09:49:00.000+11:002008-12-22T09:49:00.000+11:00@Matt: Your idea about two masterings is an intere...@Matt: Your idea about two masterings is an interesting one, but I'm not sure how practical it would be. It would cost more to maintain two streams of production in manufacturing, and since record companies are always about the bottom line, it's unlikely that they would do such a thing.

I don't understand why the radio stations can't simply compress the dynamic version of the CD before it goes to air. I'm not an expert in radio broadcasting technology, but surely any audio that is transmitted over FM already undergoes some sort of compression already? It seems that compressing the source is a bit redundant in this sense.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03538905483110518568noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8281735.post-22662444906728660392008-12-20T18:56:00.000+11:002008-12-20T18:56:00.000+11:00Yeah, great post Jiggy. I wonder if there should be two masterings; one for CD's and another for radio?

As I understand it, one of the benefits of compression is that it transmits more effectively over FM - those lovely peaks and troughs are just totally lost in this medium. There is a reasonable case to use compression there I guess..?

But I'm with you - when I'm listening to my music I want as much detail as possible please!Matthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04031430589111581249noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8281735.post-13519848961696231832008-12-12T16:10:00.000+11:002008-12-12T16:10:00.000+11:00Thanks CT!Thanks CT!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03538905483110518568noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8281735.post-50847524217724376342008-12-12T11:14:00.000+11:002008-12-12T11:14:00.000+11:00Damn fine post.
